Students learn how to best respond to instances of abuse, bullying, and sexual assault using green dots.
The Coalition for Acceptance, Respect, and Empathy is an anti-bullying group that consists of students and faculty members, who focus on issues affecting student and community health.
On Tuesday, Aug. 21, CARE assembled after school for a two-hour training session with the Vanderbilt Project Safe Group’s Green Dot Bystander Intervention Training Program. The program is focused around equipping people to intervene in different red dot situations, or instances of abuse, bullying, and sexual assault. The training session was led by Sarah Jordan Welch, who brought the CARE members through a presentation with background on what these red dot situations consist of and how to spot these situations.
After this, she led the group through an activity in which the participants decided which of the 3 D’s of intervention — Direct, Delegate, Distract — to use to respond. After this training, CARE participants left inspired to take what they have learned and continue to spread green dots by being active bystanders and to continue learning about this topic.

USN has several alumni participating in their chosen sport at the collegiate level from the Classes of 2021 through 2025.
