Traughber earns PRSA Mercury Award

Communications Director Juanita I.C. Traughber receives award for young public relations professionals.
The Public Relations Society of America, Nashville Chapter gave its Mercury Award to Communications Director Juanita I.C. Traughber during its Parthenon Awards Dinner on Monday, April 30.

“I am honored and humbled to have been selected by colleagues to receive the Mercury Award. I accept it as a strong vote of confidence in a recovering, ink-stained reporter,” Traughber said in her acceptance speech. “Since my transition from journalism to public relations seven years ago, a host of PRSA members have fostered my growth by hiring me as a freelancer, taking me to lunch or out for coffee to offer advice, connecting me with other professionals, and even helping in the midst of a crisis. To each of them, thank you for your gifts, lessons, time, guidance, and your faith in me. I also accept this award as a charge to pay it forward to the young professionals coming behind me.”

The Mercury Award recognizes Nashville’s best and brightest public relations professionals with less than 10 years of experience in the industry. Candidates must demonstrate well-rounded leadership through accelerated professional accomplishments, service to PRSA Nashville and philanthropic endeavors in the Nashville community.

Traughber is secretary of the chapter’s board of directors. She previously served as a director at large, chaired the young professionals committee, and coordinated a mentoring program to connect young PR pros with seasoned professionals.
