USNA Volunteer Spotlight: Stephanie Kleiner

This month, USNA is highlighting Caring and Concern Volunteer Stephanie Kleiner, a USN parent and wife.
There is a USNA Caring and Concern volunteer within each division. In Lower School, it is Mehri Irani, mom to Omeed '26. In Middle School, it is Erin Daunic, mom to Evy '21 and Mahoney '24. High School's volunteer is Stephanie Kleiner, wife of Fifth Grade Teacher John Kleiner and mom to Max ’19, Jack ’20, Will ’24, and Luke.

What do the Caring and Concern Coordinators do?
The Caring and Concern coordinators send handwritten, personal notes to families when they are experiencing a difficult time. We reach out to parents, students, faculty, and staff members — the entire USN community. Often, we enclose a gift card to Zoe’s or Jeni’s Ice Cream to brighten their day.

Why did you volunteer to help USN in this way?
I love to write notes; it’s a simple, yet meaningful way to express that we care when a family is going through a difficult time. It may seem old-fashioned, but sending a card can be a powerful gesture to build community and remind someone that we care about them. Reaching out to each other is so simple, so easy, and so important.

Would you share a memorable moment?
When we moved to Nashville, USN was our family. While one moment doesn’t stand out, reaching out with a card allows us to be compassionate and kind, and that kindness has been repaid to our family over the many years we have been here.
