Second grade presents Nashville’s best

During their Nashville units, second graders learned about the city’s businesses, landmarks, and musicians as well as notable Tennesseans.
The second floor of Lower School buzzed with parents during Nashville Day. During their Nashville units, second graders learned about the city’s businesses, landmarks, and musicians as well as notable Tennesseans. The special day was their opportunity to present their projects and accompanying videos as well as discuss what they learned.
 
Victoria Roca's classed studied trailblazers from Tennessee, and students wrote and illustrated reports on history makers including former Vice President Al Gore, Las Paletas Owner Irma Laz, and Olympian Wilma Rudolph.

Nabilah Rahman's class studied Nashville landmarks and got to visit the several of the city's main attractions to get hands-on experience. Students learned how their landmarks impacted the city, described them in brochures, built replicas of their landmarks with cardboard boxes and papier-mâché.

Melissa Sherman's class learned about Nashville's musical history through primary and secondary sources. Students went on field trips to the Country Music Hall of Fame, Ocean Way Recording Studio, and a Fisk Jubilee Singers concert. With partners, students chose artists or events significant to Nashville to research. They recorded a newscast.

Molly Darr's class studied Nashville businesses. In small groups, students created their own businesses and participated in marketing, finance, operations, research, and development. They thought of business names, planned for inventory, created prototypes, filmed commercials, created slogans and logos, calculated how much revenue needed to pay expenses and make a profit. Some of their businesses included, an art gallery, make up salon, pet store, and food store.
