Dine at Hopdoddy Burger Bar in Hillsboro Village between 11 a.m. and 10 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 28 and support Horizons at USN.

Have lunch or dinner and support a South Nashville student opportunity to succeed. Come to the recently opened Hopdoddy Burger Bar in Hillsboro Village between 11 a.m. and 10 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 28. Hopdoddy has graciously offered to donate 10 percent of its sales to support Horizons at University School of Nashville.  As an added incentive, proceeds from the day will be matched dollar for dollar by a local foundation.

Horizons at USN is a transformational, community-centered program proven to close the opportunity and achievement gaps for low-income children from nine Metro Nashville Public Schools. The free academic enrichment program at USN began as a summer camp with rising first graders in 2014 and has expanded by one grade level each year to include four grades in 2017. For six weeks during the summer, students study math, reading, science, and writing in the classroom and through field trips to local landmarks. In addition to swimming in the afternoons, they go through a rotation of performing and fine arts, computer programming, and sports.

As year five approaches, Horizons at USN has become more than a typical summer program. Horizons students now return to campus throughout the school year for programming including reading and math clinics, swimming, parent workshops, USN events, and other field trips. With many USN teachers and High School students volunteering or working in the program, Horizons has become a part of USN’s mission to be responsible community partners.

Horizons at USN will continue to grow by one grade level each year until it provides opportunities for rising first through ninth graders. Through eight seasons of learning, this academic enrichment program will transform the lives of students caught in the achievement gap, giving them the tools and support to become successful and confident college-bound students.
