Girls' Tennis Finishes Second at HVAC Championships
Coach Diehl
It was a grand finale for our Match Girls who competed in the HVAC Tournament on Monday at the River Campus. The team finished second overall, and individual medals were also earned by Lily Steinhilber '22 and Mills Morgan Ratliff '23 at No. 1 doubles. Other finalists include Romy Cour '22, and Anna Straus '22/Chloe Bruce '22.
First round wins by Jadyn Sheats '22 at No. 2 singles and Olivia Jelsma '23 at No. 1 singles moved them into a very competitive second round where their opponents were too tough for our Tigers. Kudos for earning a point for each of their first round wins! Good playing today!
Romy, at No. 3 singles, sashayed through two easy rounds, earning a trip to the finals vs. top-seeded CPA. Playing with blisters on both feet, Romy hung tough but came up short in the match result. Romy earned two points for USN.
Doubles team Anna S. and Chloe rolled through their first and second round opponents to earn a spot in the finals of the No. 2 doubles flight. The Tigers produced good net play and smart shots by both partners in their final match, but top-seeded CPA prevailed in the end. Another two points earned by No. 2 Doubles.
The match of the day was at No. 1 Doubles: Lily and Mills Morgan. After earning a bye for being #2 seed, they eased into the second round with a quick win over their opponents. Next up - the final match for a chance for an individual medal. Top-seeded CPA made it tough for our girls, but the Tigers showed determination and outplayed CPA to get to 8-8 in the championship match. A tiebreaker was played and our girls plowed through with a decisive win! Medals for Lily and MM!
CPA was the dominant team in our division, winning the Championship Team Trophy.
We are so proud of our team! They have worked so hard to build up their heat stamina and endurance for a day like today. They have been coachable and eager to improve all season. Congrats on an amazing season!
Congratulations to Max Parker ’29, Anisha Nachnani ’32, Indy O’Hare ’32, and Lucas Lupu ’31, who took home the top prize at the USN Quiz Bowl Championship.
