Middle School students performed their Dr. Seuss-inspired musical at the Junior Theater Festival in Atlanta.
Thirty-six USN Middle School students loaded a big yellow bus on a whirlwind tour to Atlanta on Friday, Jan. 13. The students were headed to the 2017 Junior Theater Festival held at the Cobb Galleria. This year there were over 5,400 people in attendance, representing 111 different groups from around the world. With only eight rehearsals under their belt, students prepared to dazzle the audience with a 15-minute version of “Seussical JR.” They knocked it out of the park, and when the smoke cleared, they could hold their heads high and be proud to be USN Tigers.
Steven Tarleton '21 and Kari Belle King '24 were honored as All-Stars. Rachel Wise '22, Gabrielle White '23, Greta Matthies '22, Callie Walker '22, and Cara Mabry '23 received callbacks for the choreography DVD. Mabry received an additional callback and may be eligible to go to New York this summer. We also had Middle School Theater Teacher Bakari King, Lydia West '21, and Joshua Usdan '21 participate in a Broadway Jr. Slam, where they learned to perform a song in one short hour. Bakari King was presented with an award for being an outstanding music director. They all returned back home inspired and ready to tackle the next Middle School theater adventure.
Congratulations to our cross country teams as they wrapped up their seasons at the state championship in Memphis and to the boys bowling team for defeating Ensworth.
