Emergency Alert test Nov. 15

by Erik Mash, operations director & Steve Smail, website manager

Please take a moment to check your child's emergency contacts listing for inclusion in a test of our emergency alert system at noon Tuesday, Nov. 15.
With winter weather just around the corner, now is a good time to review the emergency alert settings in the Emergency Contacts section of your child’s profile at www.usn.org. We will send a test set of messages at noon Tuesday, Nov. 15. Updates made by midnight Monday, Nov. 14 will be included in the test.

We use this emergency alert system to send voice calls, text messages, and emails when the weather alters our school day and in the case of other emergencies. Our emergency alert system is a separate system from our normal communications channels, and since it involves phone calls, text messages, and emails, is also an opt-in system such that parents can choose the best strategy for your family’s needs.

Log in with your parent account at www.usn.org/app, navigate to your child’s information screen, find “contact card” in the horizontal navigation bar, and scroll down to the Emergency Contacts section to manage the phone and email contacts. Please note updates are made in the profile/contact card of your child, not your parent profile screen.

After you click on "manage," the emails and numbers included in this special emergency alert system should be dragged into the “Active” column and set to “Emergency Only” or “Every Time.”

See the included screenshot for a visual reference. No action is needed if the numbers and emails have been used correctly in previous school years for early morning snow days or late start phone calls. New families or parents with new information since the last school year are encouraged to review the settings in their child’s profile. If you need help, please call your Division Office for assistance.

Again, these changes are made in your child’s profile, and the test of this system will occur at noon on Tuesday, Nov. 15.
