Middle School Athletics Corner

by Lilly Miller, seventh and eighth grade athletic coordinator

Welcome to the new weekly Middle School sports recap.
Middle School cross country run River Campus
Once again we returned to the River Campus for some harrier action and the weather dictated the state of play. Consistency and teamwork were the calling cards of the day, as we competed at the River Campus for the second time this season. Both teams won the meet.

The following top five team members posted a scant two-point victory over our opponents: Eden Horton (2nd), Parker O'Hara (4th), Eleanor Shepard (5th), Zoe Rosenblum (7th), and Caroline Cramer (11th), for a team total of 29 points. Claire Thompson (11th), Mia Owen (12th), and Latham Hall (13th) were close behind as part of our team finish.

On the boys' side, Neil Narayanan (3rd), Christopher Cheek (4th), Joshua Scretchen (5th), Phillip Sherman (6th), and Oscar Fox (7th), posted our team score of 25 points. Joseph Campbell and Lucas Heckers rounded out our top seven. Joseph and Lucas ran well to post strong finishes.

Eleanor Shepard and Joshua Scretchen earned Tiger of the Week accolades for their race efforts. They consistently continue to demonstrate steady progress meet by meet. Honorable mention is given to Abby Schoenecker, Nell Cox, and Tate Keuler for awesome race efforts and posting top 20 finishes.

Middle School volleyball picks up second win, loses in three sets at CPA

The Tigers beat Ezell making this win No. 2. A-team played consistently, pulling out the win in the third set against Ezell. Maggie Goodson with two blocks set the tone for the Tigers. The team's confidence is growing each day, which enables them to anticipate and intensify their game. Kendall Burgess, Lucy King, and Olivia Gerregano's kills led the Tigers to stay on top of their game and beat Ezell in the end.

The Tigers played great against Christ Presbyterian Academy. Our defense was great, and serving game is improving and becoming more consistent. The Tigers beat CPA in the first set, playing well all the way around. Kendall Burgess' sets and Lia Payne's defense led the Tigers to that first set win. Serve receive was where the Tigers fell short in the end. The Tigers are adapting to change and gaining competitive volleyball experience with every game.

Middle School golf season in full swing

Anne Griffin finished first in her HVAC match Wednesday, Sept. 8 with an incredibly low score of 35 at Cheekwood Golf Club. She played the last six holes in one under par.

Both the boys' team and Anne have a couple more matches prior to the HVAC Tournament in late September.

Middle School football picks up big win over Grace Christian
The Harding Generals, playing in their second game in four days, came out on fire against visiting Grace Christian Academy on Saturday, Sept. 10. A swarming defense and quick strike offense staked the Generals to a halftime lead of 24-0. Jordan Turner was in the GCA backfield making tackles all day from his defensive end position. He had multiple sacks and tackles for loss. The Harding secondary consisted of TJ Payne playing attack as well as aggressive defense to give the GCA receivers little space to make plays.
