Denee Stewart Freeman '18 has been awarded the 2016 Interlandi Scholarship, established by John and Beth Interlandi in memory of their daughter Mary '01 to enable a talented high school student to attend Interlochen Arts Camp.
This summer Denee will attend an intensive three-week writing session at the camp in northern Michigan.
Beth Interlandi says, "Every year, we are excited by the new winner--such a diverse bunch of applicants with wonderful talents and poise!"
English department chair Freya Sachs says, "It's been a delight to work with Denee for the last two years and to see her grow as a writer. She takes her writing seriously, working to revise her poems with dynamic and precise images that bring her thinking to life for her readers. I'm so glad she'll have the opportunity to focus on her writing for a few weeks this summer and that, then, she'll be able to share her experience and words with the rest of us. She's creative, thoughtful, and perceptive, and her poems reflect just that."
