Two HS Theater Opportunities Coming Up

Student Theatre Guild's Scene Night opens this weekend, and Six Degrees of Separation opens February 10. Read on to learn more about them.
Scene Night opens today, January 28. 
 
With 12 directors, 70-plus cast members, and numerous members of the tech crew working from 5 original and 7 award-winning scripts, Student Theatre Guild's Scene Night has all the elements for a true success. We hope you'll join us for one of the biggest annual high school events open to the public.

Tickets are available at the door for $5, and all proceeds go towards the Spring Play, which donates its proceeds to an independent organization around Nashville that supports and cultivates the local arts. Some scenes include mature themes or situations, and viewer discretion is advised. 
 
Performances are Thursday, January 28, at 5PM;  Friday, January 29, at 7PM;  and, Saturday, January 30, at 7PM.  Tickets are $5 for everyone.  

Departmental Winter Production
 
Though Six Degrees of Separation has taken this week off from rehearsals--allowing the Student Theatre Guild to tech, dress, and perform Scene Night--it doesn’t mean that work on the Departmental Winter Production stops.  Actors are still working on their lines, and the Tech Theatre classes are working on production aspects of the show.  In fact, as Jim Manning has had to design lights for Scene Night, he’s also had to think ahead to design Six Degrees; tech students are installing both shows at the same time. 
 
Six Degrees will be presented in a modified “in-the-round” staging, using the house floor and the apron of the stage.  The reason for this:  to create more intimacy and immediacy between the actors and the audience.  The show addresses issues of identity, race, gender, and familial relations--all of which will benefit from the proximity between everyone involved in the performances. 
 
Because of the reconfiguration of the audience, seating will be limited to 130.  We encourage you to reserve your seat now.
 
Performances are Wednesday, February 10 and Thursday, February 11 at 5PM;  Friday, February 12 at 7PM;  and Saturday, February 13 at 2PM and 7PM.  Tickets are free for students, faculty, staff and TAP members.  Tickets are $5 for the general public.
