The team had a great weekend at the tournament in Athens, Georgia.
Hannah Laibinis and Annie French made an impressive run in the novice division. They beat a good team from Pine Crest (Fort Lauderdale) Saturday night to advance to the round of 16. They then won won a 3-0 decision against Cambridge HS and another 3-0 in the quarterfinals yesterday afternoon to Johns Creek HS.
In the semifinals they dropped a tense 2-1 decision to a team from Pace Academy, the number one ranked policy program for most of last season. Hannah was the 7th ranked speaker in a talented pool.
Alex Dano and Evan Rork also made the final bracket. Their 4-2 preliminary record earned them the eighth seed in the round of 16, where they lost a 2-1 decision to Northview HS.
Hannah Wolfson and Zach Babat finished 3-3, as did maverick Akash Kurupassery. The older students did a great job supporting the novices.
For the third time, the junior has earned recognition for her C-SPAN StudentCam documentary. Elected officials and a representative from the network honored her during High School Assembly on Friday, May 2.
Congratulations to Max Parker ’29, Anisha Nachnani ’32, Indy O’Hare ’32, and Lucas Lupu ’31, who took home the top prize at the USN Quiz Bowl Championship.
