Representatives from USN's National Alumni Board of Visitors came to campus this week for their annual dose of information about the school.
Meeting most of the day Monday, the visiting alumni gathered in the Payne Library Room to learn about what's happened at USN since they were here last fall and to share ideas about the future.
Attending this year were Carol Norris Brown '70, Jim Coddington '70, Harold Jordan '81, Mark Stumpf '65, Liz Werthan '56, and Christina West '94, with Ben Lundin '03 joining the meeting by phone. Vince Durnan and Board of Trustees president-elect Brett Sweet discussed the big questions the Board addressed in their annual retreat in September, examining our educational model and considering how best to continue to pay for it.
Debate coaches Bill Wilson and Ben Zeppos, two of the USN high school teachers who received a grant from the Edward E. Ford Foundation to collaborate with Vanderbilt professors, explained their project. They are working with Vanderbilt's library director to develop a curriculum that ultimately other schools will be able to use, helping to make policy debate more accessible to more students.
The highlight of the day was a panel discussion of life at USN as experienced by four seniors: Adam Beasley, Emaun Irani, Megan Kasselberg, and Kaitlyn Rabb.
On Friday, May 9, members of the MS Quiz Bowl team traveled to Chicago to compete against schools from across the country in the National Academic Quiz Tournament Middle School National Championship.
