Debate Team Success in Atlanta

by Bill Wilson, debate coach

USN had an impressive showing at The Gladiator Debates at Johns Creek High School in Atlanta this weekend.
Hannah Wolfson and Zach Babat finished preliminary competition with a 4-1 record and secured the second seed in the varsity field. USN BW then won their quarterfinal round against Chattahoochee HS and the semis versus Atlanta Northview before dropping a close final round to rival MBA

Hannah will be receiving a gladiator sword in the mail after being named the top speaker at the tournament.

USN absolutely dominated the 43 team novice field, where all four teams reached elimination rounds. Three USN teams--Hannah Laibinis and Evan Rork (undefeated and top seed), Arjun Dasari and Annie French (3rd seed), and Sonali Dasari and Sarah Stack (6th seed) were declared co-champions after the quarterfinal round. Shriya Karam and William Gilliland were the 16th seed and did not get a chance to debate their first elimination round due to drawing their higher seeded teammates in the 16 team bracket. Arjun was recognized as the third speaker in the division.

Next up, the young USN squad will test their skills in the 200 team varsity and 100 team novice divisions at the University of Michigan over Halloween weekend.
