Lower School Welcomes New Teachers

by Amy Woodson, head of lower school

Four teachers and a lower school counselor join our faculty this year.
Lizzie Ammerman joins USN with experience teaching both first and third grades in Metro Nashville Public Schools, where she was a faculty leader in several roles at her school. She attended The University of the South, Sewanee and Peabody College and has endorsements in Art and K-8 education. Lizzie will be teaching first grade.

Kyleen Shyer comes to third grade from the Lovett School in Atlanta, where she was the grade level chair of her fifth grade team. She has experience at first and fourth grades as well. Kyleen earned her B.S. in Childhood Education at The College of St. Rose, in Albany, New York and her M.A. in Literacy Education at Teachers College. She was a contributor to the reading curriculum that we use, which is the “gold” standard in the field.

Sarah Wiley spent the last nine years in MNPS. She has middle grades experience as a literature teacher for fifth–eighth graders and has been  teaching third grade for the last four years. She also taught second grade and Kindergarten, where she job-shared with Lizzie Ammerman! Sarah has a Bachelor’s degree in education from Martin Methodist College and a Master’s from Lipscomb University.

I am pleased to welcome Kymberlee Stanley as the new lower school counselor. Kymberlee has experience working as a school social worker as well as a school counselor. She comes to Nashville from Southern California with education and credentialing from USC and Cal State. Kymberlee has worked with diverse populations and brings her skill set to USN to begin a more formal and directed slate of Social Emotional Learning program offerings. She will be in classrooms, small groups, one-to-one and parent education settings as soon as school begins.

Mike Gimblette joins our physical education department this year. He comes to Nashville from New York City, where he worked at The Hewitt School, a K-12 girls' school. Mike joins the physical education team in teaching grades K-4. In addition to his experience teaching lower school, he's got some great ideas to build school spirit and community. Mike will also be coaching middle school volleyball and boys' soccer, along with assisting the high school baseball program.
