The heads of half a dozen schools that are partners in one way or another with a university spoke at USN's Centennial Symposium this week.
Writing his dissertation, Cases in Partnership with Independent Schools and Universities, inspired Vince Durnan to invite the people leading the schools he examined to come to USN. These school heads arrived in Nashville on Super Sunday to dine at Buhl House and then meet at USN the next day:
James Berkman, Boston University Academy
Jerome Chermak, University School, Nova Southeastern University David Magill, University of Chicago Lab Schools (retired)
Amani Reed, The School at Columbia University
Barbara Riley, The Hopkins School (New Haven)
Before the Symposium, the visitors toured USN, shared ideas, and lunched with administrators and board members. They spent Monday afternoon talking with one another about their schools, a rare opportunity, before convening in the auditorium for the Centennial Symposium.
The meeting offered a unique opportunity for these educational leaders to share ideas on the challenges facing them. Though the schools differ from each other in many ways, each one's partnership with a university unites the group. As Vince Durnan says, "Schools like ours benefit from these relationships with major universities, whether it's a formal or informal one. Universities find value in the benefit for people and programs too."
