The USN Swimming Tigers hosted USN’s first high school home meet since November 2010 on Tuesday, November 11 against Hillsboro High School. Both the girls (113-18) and boys (110-16) posted team victories in a spirited and energetic meet.
In the girls’ meet, double winners included Natalie TeSelle (200 freestyle, 100 butterfly), Elena Escalas (40 and 100 freestyles), and Trudy Zou (160 IM, 100 breaststroke). Margaret Luffman added the final individual win in the 100 backstroke.
Other highlights included Jessica Mei’s lifetime best in the 100 breaststroke, Kylee Hall’s strong performances in the 100 freestyle and 100 breaststroke, and Marie Gerber’s 100 freestyle.
On the other side, six different boys were individual event winners. Joshua Twillie won the 100 and 200 freestyle. Other individual wins came from Kevin Chen (160 IM), Curtis Patey (40 freestyle), Neil Zheng (100 butterfly), Kellon Patey (100 backstroke), and Mackenzie Myers (100 breaststroke).
In terms of our postseason eligibility, Kellon Patey and Joshua Twillie both earned new State qualifying times. New Region cuts were earned by Jack Reed, Marie Gerber, Caroline Hollahan, Connor Crenshaw, Kevin Chen, and Tebyn Chittester.
Our swimmers of the meet were Jessica Mei and Joshua Twillie; both posted personal best swims and contributed strong relay performances.
The team returns to competition on Saturday, November 22 at Ensworth in search of more State and Region qualifying times.
As part of a longstanding tradition, retired teachers and professionals from USN over the years came together to celebrate, connect, and reminisce during their annual luncheon in Durnan Auditorium.
It is common to have five or more University School of Nashville student-athletes sign college athletic commitment letters each year, and this year, USN saw eight more student-athletes commit to continue their athletic careers at the collegiate level. USN has several alumni participating in their chosen sport at the collegiate level from the Classes of 2021 through 2025.
