HS XC Chickasaw Trails Meet Report
The Chickasaw Trails Invitational in Oakville, Alabama has become an early season springboard for the USN cross country teams--the fast and twisting course and the plethora of good competition help the runners rise to meet the challenges, now and for the duration of the season.

There was no respite from the hot and humid weather that has been the norm the last few weeks, and the girls had the reasonably good fortune to run earlier in the morning. Lydia Warren and Lauryn Cravens once again led the way, separated by just a few seconds and a few positions in the standings. A trio of XC veterans-- Josephine Zenker, Maggie Young, and Kate Carpenter--were bunched together, about a minute behind. Not far behind were a few newer runners (Talia Barton, Sarah Knight, and Ella Stack), which bodes well for their improvement over the next few weeks. The girls finished in 5th place, but just 4 points out of third place, showing the necessity of a pass here or there which will be important later in the season.

The boys ran over an hour later, and it was quite hot out by the time the gun went off. The trio of Wolf Robinson, Dylan Groos, and Kellon Patey quickly went to the front of the 400-runner field, where they would stay for the entirety of the race. With just about a quarter of a mile to go, Wolf was in the lead pack of four runners, and his late race surge brought him an impressive and deserved victory. Dylan was just behind them in 5th place, followed closely by Kellon in 7th and Mackenzie Myers in 12th. Duncan Clark rounded out the scoring in 20th place, cementing an impressive victory for the Tigers, their fourth straight year of winning the race. Brad Johnson and Chandler Floyd also ran well to complete the classical 7 varsity runners.

The JV squads had the tallest order of the day, running in both the largest fields and hottest conditions. Still, many of them ran well, bettering their times from two weeks ago. Benjamin Harris, Jay Karp, Nishant Upender and Stephanie Blumenthal both ran more than a minute faster, and Daniel Stephens and Eric Rosenthal also ran a good deal faster.

The Tigers represented the school well, and they next return to action at the Tennessee Classic on September 20 at the Steeplechase course in Percy Warner Park.

HS Girls' Soccer takes down St. Cecilia and Webb School, drops close game to Harpeth Hall
The girls' soccer team came away from the end of a crazy weather week with two more district wins. The girls traveled to St. Cecilia on Thursday and after giving up an early goal to the Scarabs, the Tigers buckled down on defense and kept SCA off the scoreboard for the remainder of the game. The freshman duo of Courtney Rabb and Mary Sophia Reich provided the scoring punch for USN. Rabb scored twice, the first to tie the game and the second to give the Tigers some insurance on a nifty crossover dribble and left footed shot into the upper corner.

The girls then hosted the Feet of Webb School on Friday in a make-up game from Tuesday night. The game was once again delayed by weather for about thirty minutes, but when the clouds lifted, the scoring started for the Tigers. USN was persistent in their attack of the Webb goal, resulting in nine goals for the Tigers by seven different players. Nora Lee scored the first goal of the game just three minutes into the game, and Courtney Rabb and Hannah Bollen each scored twice to lead USN. (Nora Lee, Kenzi Juszkiewicz, Kate Tanner, Marina Escalas, and Lilly Middleton scored one goal each.)

USN traveled to Harpeth Hall on Monday for a non-region game against the Honeybears. Harpeth Hall scored first to lead 1-0 at the half. The second half provided the type of playoff drama that you hope for in these tough non-district games. Kara Gordon scored early in the second half to tie the game for USN, but Harpeth Hall came back to take the lead at 2-1 with 17 minutes remaining in the game. Kara Gordon stepped up again to fight through the defense and tie the game up for USN with ten minutes left. Harpeth Hall found a hole in the defense and finished a breakaway goal with five minutes left to pull out the 3-2 victory and give USN its first loss of the season.

The girls will play next in the Ladies Tournament of Champions at the River Campus on Thursday and Friday at 5pm and Saturday morning at 9am. The top team in the bracket will advance to the Championship Game at 3:45 at Pope John Paul II.

HS Volleyball takes first district win against Franklin Road Academy
The Tigers have added their first district win to their record. USN defeated the FRA Panthers in a four-set match at FRA. The final scores were 25-18, 21-25, 25-15, and 25-23. The Tigers showcased their strengths in all areas. Annie Weimerskirch, Bailey Hudson, Lindsay Hardy, and Lucy Kloeppel all stood tall at the net with one or more blocks. Lindsay Hardy led the team with 8 kills, followed by Kiana Jansen with 7 and Bailey Hudson with 4. Breaking all records set this year, Lindsay Hardy ended the match with 11 aces. Joi Holmes, Maggie Kidd, and Emily Bridgers all played well defensively with 2 digs each. As a team, the Tigers finished the night with a total of 8 blocks, 20 kills, 43 digs, and 26 aces.

The girls will be playing on Thursday at Davidson Academy and then travel to Station Camp on Friday and Saturday to play in the Bison Bash.

HS Football blanks Ezell Harding 49-0
The defense for the DCA/USN Co-op football team stood tall once again on Friday night against Ezell Harding. The Wildcats scored a defensive touchdown on an interception and then held the Eagles scoreless for the remainder of the game.
The offense was more balanced, scoring two touchdowns through the air and four on the ground. Rashad Jones had one catch for ten yards in the game. Jonathan Leeper and Moses Hummon supplied great work on the offensive line. Sean Barrett continued to contribute in the special teams and defensive game and had one rushing attempt.

The team will play at home on Friday night against Franklin Road Academy at 7pm.
