Sophomores Rough It in Pisgah

by Justin Karpinos

The Tenth Grade Retreat, a journey into North Carolina's Pisgah National Forest, represents the capstone of our Outdoor Education program, and it’s not for the faint of heart.
The sophomore class and seven faculty compatriots spent three days and two nights hiking and camping in Pisgah, carrying food and shelter on their backs. This was followed by a class-wide dinner and reunion at Camp Pinnacle with stories to swap and a final day of whitewater rafting at the Nantahala River before returning to Tennessee on Friday.

10th grade teachers described the state of the 10th grade students as “dirty and deliriously happy,” which is probably the best punctuation mark to put on the USN Outdoor Education program that I could imagine.
