Girls' Soccer Wins Twice in District
The girls' soccer team traveled to BGA last Friday for their first district game of the season.
The Tigers trailed 1-0 at halftime and BGA took a 2-0 lead midway through the second half on a direct kick. USN got some life with just over ten minutes remaining, when a shot by Skylar King deflected into the back of the net. Kaitlyn Rabb found the net three minutes later to tie the game on an assist from Natasha Frontera. The Tigers continued to push the ball forward and earned a corner kick with just over two minutes left. Nora Lee dropped a loose ball back to Courtney Rabb, who blasted a shot into the upper corner to give USN a 3-2 win.
The Tigers faced another district opponent on the road on Monday, traveling to Davidson Academy. The girls took little time enforcing their will in this game. Kara Gordon scored three times in the first eight minutes of the game. Courtney Rabb and Emma Wuerth added goals in the first half to give USN a 5-0 lead at halftime. The Tigers continued to attack the net in the second half, and goals were scored by Gordon, Kaitlyn Rabb, Wuerth, Kelly McHugh, and Marin Kirshner. The girls improved to 2-0-1 overall and 2-0 in the district. They will be off the rest of the week for school retreats.
HS Cross Country Starts Strong
The high school cross country teams started off the season in high temps at Sharp Springs Park in Smyrna. The boys began with an impressive sixth place finish in a field of 70+ schools. Wolf Robinson led the way with a 14th place finish at 16:46. The girls followed up the strong efforts from the boys with a 13th place finish, with over 70 teams present as well. Lydia Warren and Lauryn Cravens finished 47th and 48th overall at just over 22 minutes to pace the girls' team.
HS Volleyball falls to St. Cecilia, Friendship Christian
The varsity volleyball team hosted their first home match of the season against St. Cecilia. The Sperling Gym had a great crowd on hand and the Tigers played well in the first game, but lost 19-25. The Scarabs found a rhythm in the second game and won the match in three games.
USN traveled to Friendship Christian on Monday and had leads in two of the games but lost in straight sets. They will be off the rest of the week for school retreats.
HS Football Blanks East Robertson
The football co-op team with Donelson Christian won its first game of the season. The team shut out East Robertson, and Rashad Jones caught his first touchdown pass of his career to seal the win for the Wildcats. They will travel to Jackson Christian this Friday for a non-region game at 7pm.
MS Cross Country Meet Recap
There were hot times for our Edgehill harriers yesterday and they all braved the heat and posted a good first effort on the 2014 season. Our intention was clearly to get in a training effort and not to push the limits, considering the heat, and it turned out to be a good start to the season.
GIRLS - Ella Steinhilber led the way by posting a victory and leading our team to a 2nd place finish, a scant 7 points off Ensworth School. Olivia Dossett 5th, Maggie Robinson 7th, Parker O'Hara 9th, and Hannah Laibinis 15th provided the push for our team score. Surprise 5th grader Lilly Steinhilber placed 6th overall; unfortunately the 5th grade competes as "exhibition" non-scoring runners.
BOYS - Timothy Hays led the boys to a team win and his fist ever individual win. Alistair Womack 3rd, Pelham Bergeson 6th, Oscar (Peter Pan) Fox 7th and Phillip Sherman 11th posted our top five scoring positions. Another 5th grader, Joshua Scretchen, placed 4th, again as an "exhibition" non-scoring runner.
