Del R. Bryant '66 is Distinguished Alumnus
We are happy to announce that this year's USN/PDS Distinguished Alumnus is Del R. Bryant '66.
Del R. Bryant was a sophomore when he came to Peabody Demonstration School, where he played in the Pep Band and joined the Guitar Club, among a list of other activities. His classmates voted him “Most Courteous.”
Del grew up in the music business. His parents, Boudleaux and Felice Bryant, were the first two professional songwriters in Nashville. They wrote, among many other hits, “Bye, Bye Love,” “Rocky Top,” and “Wake Up Little Susie,” inspiring Del’s passion for the music business and teaching him about the songwriting process.
Del and his brother, Dane Bryant ’65, served as co-directors of their parents’ publishing company House of Bryant Productions. In 1972 Del joined BMI in Nashville. He worked in many areas of the company over the next 32 years, becoming president and CEO in 2004.
Known as one of the company’s most talented team builders, Del played a leading role in re-engineering and modernizing BMI’s royalty distribution system. He revitalized BMI’s Film & Television department, established BMI’s Latin music division, and also led the way in establishing an R&B/hip-hop music division.
Del R. Bryant ’66 is past Chairman of the Board of FastTrack and serves on the Board of Directors of BMI, CISAC, the Songwriters Hall of Fame, and the Broadcasters Foundation of America.
