Class Notes: November Alumni in the News

Here are your fellow Tigers making headlines this month.
David Ewing '85 and his wife, Alice Randall, are making news this month for helping Vanderbilt University students learn about Nashville. They were also named one of Nashville's "power couples" by Nashville Lifestyles magazine.

Ben Caldwell '88
's copper and antler serving pieces were named one of Oprah's "Favorite Things" for 2013.

Jane Buchanan '92, Associate Director at Human Rights Watch, was quoted in an Associate Press article about discrimination against gays at the upcoming Olympic Games in Russia. Forbes also interviewed her on the harrassment of the press covering the games.

USN Distinguished Alumna 2001, Reverend Heather Warren '77, an Associate Professor of Religious Studies at the University of Virginia, was in the news for being one of thirty-one pastors in Pennsylvania who came together to officiate same-sex marriages.

Marshall Karr '70 was quoted in an Yahoo! Finance article on SRT Shareholders Coalition.

Phil Ebersole's Blog discussed what students learn in Michael Puett '82's Classical Chinese Ethical and Political Theory class at Harvard.

Ned Davis '63 is quoted in a Chicago Tribune article on the recent weak jobs report.

Malcolm Moutenot '13 scored his first goal of the season for the Williams College as they won their first round NCAA game over Elms, 4-0. They won again on Sunday, 4-1 over Western New England, to advance to the Div. III Sectionals on 11/23.

Meiko Lyles '10 scored 8 points off the bench for Columbia University against #2 Michigan State.

Liam Nash '13 chipped in 12 points to help Knox College earn their first win of the year.

Piper Jones '08 is nominated for Best Featured Actress (for Spring Awakening) in Broadway World Nashville Awards. You can vote for Piper here. Piper also stepped into the lead role of the USN/Fisk University collaboration, The Gospel at Colonus, when a new lead was needed at the last minute. Piper played the part of Odysseus, a role typically played by male actors.

Tim Ozgener '88 was recently featured in The New York Times, The Tennessean, the Nashville Scenein a WSMV interview, and an ArtsNash blog post, talking about the grand opening of his famiy's new contemporary art center, OZ Nashville. 

Forest Miller '12 and his band Chasin' Crazy were recently signed by RPM Entertainment.

Grant Garmezy '03's glasswork was featured in Nashville Arts Magazine.

The Nashville Business Journal interviewed Max Goldberg '01 and Ben Goldberg '98 about their new venture Pinewood Social.

Bob Massie '46 talked with the Nashville Scene about the inspiration behind Catherine the Great.

After a long and successful career in the music industry, Del Bryant '66 is slated to retire from BMI.
