Steven Venick

Steven came to USN in kintergarten.
Which teachers and fellow alumni do you most want to see at Reunion and why?
Mr. O'Rourke (6th grade English) -Because we were his first class at USN and at the end of the year when we realized we all had to leave, Shelley started reading a poem about our year together and everybody started crying. I still remember Mr. O's absolutely FLABBERGASTED face. Mr. Baker (7th grade English) -Because he was one of the first teachers I had that got me thinking critically. Mr. Dorris (7th grade Social Studies) -Because I still remember sitting in a circle with Mr. Dorris and discussing current events. DC (8th grade Social Studies) -Because participating in his "Change Project" changed my life. Mr. Schmidt (8th grade Math & notorious KISS fan) -Because NO Math teacher knows how to ROCK like Mr. Schmidt 8th Mr. Katz -Because he's one of the few of my high school teachers that I'm actually still in touch with. Mr. Neely -Because he knows how to take a practical joke (even if he gets bright red). Mr. McKay -Because he was always undeniable the coolest of the Crew. Mr. Flatau -My advisor, my friend. 'Nuff said. Dr. Levy -Because she was the kind of teacher that pushes you in exactly the right kind of way. I still use her guide for writing research papers. Man I hope I haven't forgotten anybody... Mrs. Venable

What is your favorite memory of your time at PDS/USN?
How could I possibly choose just one? Getting left behind at the National Archives on the 8th grade trip to Washington, D.C. is definitely up there. I still remember it all vividly. Getting brought down to the security room by security. Getting picked up by a police car and riding with the lights and sirens blaring to join my classmates on the buss. Everyone thinking I was kidnapped by drug dealers in Memorial Park. Classic.

What are your three favorite ways to spend your time?
1. Having Spanish wine and tapas with friends in Madrid.
2. Having French wine and cheese with friends in Paris.
3. Having beer and chicken wings with friends in the U-S-of-A.’

What would you most like people to know about your life after high school?
I didn't start really living until my mid-twenties.

What is something about you that would surprise your PDS/USN classmates?
Hmmm... maybe that I dated the granddaughter of a French princess for almost a year? I had my shot at the good life in old Europe and passed it up...
