USN Garners Runner-Up Finishes at Metro Championships

USN's runners turned in many fine performances, with second-place finishes in the JV girls', V girls', and V boys' races. The JV boys finished in third, after an initial tie for second.
In the first of three straight races at the famed and challenging Steeplechase course, the USN runner acquitted themselves well, earning second place finishes in three of four races, with the JV boys missing out on the runner-up sweep on a tie-breaker.
Though the course rarely allows for PRs, the teams ran their races with determination and the knowledge that it will be the setting for the Region and State races to come.  The JV races were highlighted not just by the team finishes, but also by individual performances by Natascha Heckers, Kate Carpenter, Josephine Zenker, and Larkin Johnson (all in the top 20), and by Mitchell Lutz (5th), Daniel Pannock (9th), as well as Chandler Floyd, Reid Dickerson, and Brad Johnson (all in the top 20).
The Varsity also performed admirably, with top performances from Bennet LeMaster, Lydia Warren, and Chloe Kibble (10th, 12th, and 13th, respectively), and from Ben Keffer, William Doak, Dylan Groos, and Christian Floyd (10th, 13th, 19th, and 21st, respectively). The teams' depth helped them earn their runner-up positions, and the depth obviously extends to the JV, as evidenced by their team finishes.
Things are aligning for a great day next Thursday at the Region Championships, and for the following Saturday at "State!"
