HS Girls' Lacrosse tops Father Ryan, improving to 3-0.
After a week of no games, the Tigers rallied to beat a speedy Father Ryan team.
After almost 10 minutes of the game had past, no goals had been scored by either team. USN was able to get on the scoreboard first with a goal by our leading scorer for the day, Elizabeth Dossett. The first half was well defended and low scoring by both teams. USN had scored four goals in the first half, all of which were assisted, to have a two goal lead going into the second half. Our midfield defending was some of the best we have seen all season, forcing turnovers and capitalizing on dropped balls. Olivia Brown picked up 5 ground balls, most of which were in the midfield allowing us to then attack on a tired defense.
The second half, Father Ryan came back hard and was able to work their way back into the game. With less than eleven minutes to play, the score was tied 7 goals a piece. Nora Lee was aggressive on the center circle, winning 4 huge draw controls to allow us those extra offensive possessions. Anna Doctor scored two game-changing goals to regain the lead for USN.
Not enough can be said about the performance of our goal keeper, Asha Mehrotra. She had the best game of her career to date with twelve saves, all of which very crucial. Asha was able to intercept feeds from the attack players as well as provide her defense with an extra hand on ground balls. We could not have won this game without her outstanding play.
Tigers won the game by a 3 goal margin. We improve our record to 3-0, with two more games to play this week.
Statistics were as follows: Anna Doctor: 2 goals Abby Motycka: 1 goal Sarah Alberts: 2 assists, 1 draw control Olivia Brown: 5 ground balls, 1 draw control Maddie Robin: 2 ground balls Elizabeth Dossett: 6 goals, 1 assist, 2 draw controls, 1 ground ball Amber Sands: 1 draw control Nora Lee: 1 goal, 4 draw controls Maggie Milam: 1 draw control Asha Mehrotra: 12 saves
