Twenty seniors became members of the national academic honor society Cum Laude on September 21.
McKenzie Andrews, Courtney Berck, Madeleine Booth, Melissa Carlson, Tim Creavin, Julia Durnan, Eliot Goldfarb, Emily Guest, Allie Kim, Emma LaBounty, Eliot Linton, George Meyer, Michael Ng, Kuan Peng, Emma Pingree-Cannon, Mikeie Reiland, Derek Shyr, Thalia Spinrad, Kelsey Urness, and Sonal Walia were recognized in the annual induction ceremony in the Payne Library Room.
Here are some interesting facts about this group of students, who one observer was heard to describe as "very good-looking." Eight of them have been students at USN since kindergarten. They are stellar athletes, musicians, debaters, volunteers, actors, artists, and leaders, and some embody several of these accomplishments at once.
Gary Gerstle, Professor of American History and of Political Science at Vanderbilt University and father of Sam Gerstle '09, spoke to the students and their families. Quoting Martin Luther King, Professor Gerstle said, "The arc of history is long, but it bends toward justice."
