USN’s boys defeated Mount Juliet 91-78, while our girls fell 95-66, giving Mount Juliet the combined win (173-157).

Last night, the USN high school swimming team took on Mount Juliet High School in the first home meet of the season.  This has been one of our more competitive meets over the past few years, and this year’s meet was no exception.  USN’s boys defeated Mount Juliet 91-78, while our girls fell 95-66, giving Mount Juliet the combined win (173-157).

The boys were led by senior McLain Gore and junior Logan Jones, each of whom won two events.  Logan’s 100 backstroke was a lifetime best by three seconds and moved him up to #5 on the USN all-time top 10 list.  Sophomore Holt Akers-Campbell added a win in the 200 freestyle, and freshman William Doak captured the 500 freestyle.  Holt also joined with seniors Tom Coogan and Cord Walker and sophomore Alister Fazio to win the 320 freestyle relay.

Additionally, Jones and Akers-Campbell earned their way onto the USN all-time top 10 list with their 100 backstroke (#5) and 100 butterfly (#10) performances, respectively.

Other outstanding performers were freshman  Ben Ghertner, who earned his first Region qualifying time in the 100 breaststroke, and juniors Will Johns and Will Knowles, who swam lifetime bests in the sprint freestyles, and junior Justin Maffett, who dropped 10 seconds off his previous 100 breaststroke and had two outstanding relay splits.

The girls were led by sophomores Caroline Graham and Ellen Jones and freshman Alison Zhong, each of whom captured one individual event and finished second in another.  These three girls were also joined by freshmen Logan Sweet, Sarah Alberts, and Jaisal Merchant on our three relay teams, which won all three relays.

With this meet, the USN boys improve to 2-0 on the season, while the girls fall to 1-1; our combined team record is now 1-1.

Our next home meet is Tuesday, November 17 at USN against Centennial High School at 4:30 P.M.
