State success!

For the first time ever, the Tennessee state championships were held in Memphis, but some things remain the same - USN Tigers near the front of the field.

The short version: the boys, led by All-State performances from Jack Fruin and Griffin Davidson and bolstered by more depth than any other team, finished as State Runners-Up! For the girls, Madeleine Wiseman was also All-State and Jackie Seale ran well despite recent illness.

The boys were the first to toe the line, and despite a season of setbacks and obstacles, were resolute and optimistic. With five of the fifteen competing  teams each having a chance for the top spot, the race was wide open, and all the top teams had a few runners near the front - Jack and Griffin would both finish in the top 10. But it was USN’s depth - led by Drew Zwerner gamely competing despite respiratory illness - that made the difference. Caleb Freifeld, Caleb Little, and James Little all moved up multiple places in the second half to secure a narrow three-point margin over third place. Mario Tedeschi also finished in the top half of the field in his final HS race.

Madeleine was well-positioned inside the top 10 all race, and she, despite being stuck between lack of runners ahead and behind, managed her efforts well and even in isolation ran a great race. Jackie was tucked into a large pack of runners from the top schools and did a wonderful job competing with them, culminating in a strong finish.

The teams and coaches are grateful for all you have done in supporting us through the season. The hardware we bring home is in part yours - thank you for all the help and support!
