The frisbee team battled Montgomery Bell Academy this week as it looks to build on a successful start to the season. Meanwhile, our mountain biking team wrapped up its season at the Laurel Point trails on Raccoon Mountain outside Chattanooga. Catch up on Middle School athletics in this week's athletic recap from Middle School Athletic Director Michael Scrutchin.
Frisbee Last week, all three Middle School frisbee teams had successful games against opponents both near and far. The 7th and 8th-grade boys started out the week with games against MBA. We split our squad in half, and each team played two games. On the day, our teams went 2-2, gained a ton of confidence, and learned a lot from playing.
Wednesday saw both our 7th and 8th-grade boys, as well as the girls' team, in action against the MNPS combo team. All three teams dug deep, used the strategies we’ve been working on in practice, and walked away with wins!
Friday was a chance for our 6th-grade boys to both play against and with the 5th-grade team at USN. This was a fantastic opportunity for the 5th graders to get some game-time experience and for the 6th graders to teach what they have learned so far this season.
Mountain Biking
For our MS squad, team points were contributed by Ella Murdock ’31, Rosie Hauser ’30, Sarah Absi ’32, and Emmett Cheney ’31. Brand new riders Ella and Sarah really found their rhythm towards the end of the season, and both Hauser and Cheney left it all out on the trail for their two laps. Barry Chen ’30 zoomed through his laps, finishing two laps in just under 50 minutes, while James Barbieri ’31 had his strongest race of the season, and Julian Scheutz Sevin ’32 survived a single lap battling some nausea that slowed him down. This small but strong middle school squad finished 13th for the day and 11th overall for the season, quite the ending, competing against nearly 30 teams.
