If it looks like I’m having a ball, well, I am. Take a look at that shot of Anne Westfall and me on the Fall Fest swings–what in the world were we thinking? It felt great in the moment to be barefoot and tattooed with a proud Tiger paw. The post-ride? Not so great.
What IS great? Our search for a permanent Head of Middle School. We are all systems go. Guided by two consultants from
Carney Sandoe & Associates (the same outfit that steered our Director search), who visited USN in September to meet with teachers, administrators, students, parents, and our search committee,
we drafted a position statement that reflects our hopes and dreams for this big, marvelous job. CS&A has spent a month interviewing a large pool of exceptional candidates, and they will forward by the end of October a curated set of candidates for our committee to review. We will then do our own Zoom interviews to winnow our group of finalists to three or four. With the right tailwind, I am optimistic that we’ll complete our on-site finalist visits by mid-December and have our search buttoned up by Winter Break.
Incoming Director Rob Hereford has committed to helping us woo our finalist group, knowing that any new Division Head would find it essential to connect with his/her future Head of School.
Finalist visits will mimic in many ways the process we followed for our Director search. As we know more, we’ll give as much head’s up as we can about opportunities for parents to meet each finalist. It was abundantly clear during our Director finalist visits that our school community shined, with each candidate leaving the on-site visit more eager than ever to have the opportunity to lead USN. I have every confidence that will be true for this MS Head search as well. Thank you in advance for giving me reason to be confident.
Katie Sandidge, Sixth Grade English Teacher and holder of the Lisa and Mike Shmerling Excellence in Teaching Chair, captains our search committee, with representation from across the school in role, subject expertise, and tenure at USN. When you get a chance, please thank the team listed below for taking on this significant extra work; I’m honored to be their colleague. Hoping you’ll reach out with any questions.
Warmly,
Juliet
