This National Volunteer Week, we're thrilled to celebrate the volunteers who make USN such a special place. Let’s get to know Jennie Shepard ’02, a USNA alumna and parent who has worked with the USNA for nearly a decade.
Q: In what grades are your children?
A: 7th grade-Evan; 5th grade- Zoe and Emma
Q: How long have you been involved with USNA?
A: I've been involved with USNA since my kids started kindergarten.
Q: What has been your all-time favorite volunteering experience for a USNA event?
A: The year I co-chaired Fall Fest was one of my favorite experiences. The weather was beautiful, and we had so much fun planning the event.
Q: What are you most excited about in the 2025-2026 school year?
A: I am looking forward to getting more involved with the Tiger Club! So thrilled to have it and be a part of that.
Tiger Club, USN’s athletic booster club, helps support upgrades to our athletic facilities, coordinates concessions sales, and sponsors our Sports Recognition evenings.
Q: If you could invite any celebrity to speak at a school assembly, who would it be and why?
A: So many options!
Oprah is a pillar and a killer philanthropist.
Lady Gaga is an excellent role model for young kids, regardless of where they come from or who they are.
Michelle Obama loves kids and would be such an inspiration.
Adam Sandler: No explanation necessary.
Jack Black: duh.
Q: What aspect of USN do you appreciate the most?
A: I love the community and the comfort that I feel at the school where I grew up. Going to USN for 12 years, it always felt like home. Even before my kids began their careers at USN, they were comfortable here as well.
Q: Do you have any advice for fellow parent volunteers?
A: Get involved. Communicate. Have fun.
