The 2024 Fall Book Frenzy was a tremendous success. As in past years, the University School of Nashville community embraced the opportunity to support this meaningful fundraiser.
A well-loved USN event for over 20 years, Fall Book Frenzy benefits programs spearheaded by the Hassenfeld librarians. Specifically, the proceeds are used to add to the book collection, create new reading areas, enhance programming, and support the Author in Residence program. This year, the sale raised more than $14,000.
The drivers behind this fantastic outcome were USN’s responsible and committed volunteers. This year, members of the USN community worked more than 200 volunteer shifts. Whether arriving at the school early to manage collection at drop-off, rapidly packing and bundling donations to store them before the sale, setting up Cheek Gym for the event, sorting thousands of books, puzzles, and games, or working Fall Book Frenzy itself, USN’s volunteers were there and ready to help.
Fall Book Frenzy also puts USN in the unique position to extend its reach to the greater Nashville community. USN invites all area Nashville schools and charities to enjoy special pricing at the annual sale. In 2024, dozens of teachers, librarians, and charity directors took hundreds of books back to their schools and offices for a very low price.
Despite not being able to enjoy the traditional camaraderie with Fall Fest attendees this year, Fall Book Frenzy shoppers braved the rain to enjoy a peaceful and joyful environment at the sale. As children gathered in the “cozy corner” to review their purchases, parents had an extra moment to shop solo for the latest bestseller or how-to guide. While students sifted through keychains and bookmarks to add to their haul, other shoppers were excited to include light-up magnifying cards in their purchases. The USN community again showed its dedication to supporting the programs that make the school so special. Special recognition goes to USNA Office Administrator Debra Alberts, USN Operations Coordinator Marte Beaty, and the entire Operations team. This fundraiser would not have been successful without them.
Looking ahead, as USNA begins planning for the 2025 Fall Book Frenzy, we’re reminding the USN community to set aside a small corner to stack the books, puzzles, and games for next year’s donation. The book collection will be back before we know it.
