Chess Club members rank high at city qualifier tournament
Chess Club members from High, Middle, and Lower Schools receive notable placements following the 2023 Lipscomb Academy Nashville City Qualifier Tournament on Saturday, September 23.

University School of Nashville’s Chess Club members placed high in division sections at the city qualifier tournament inside Lipscomb Academy on Saturday, September 23.
High School’s Stewart ’25 and Middle School’s Matthew ’29 both placed in the top 10 within their respective divisions. Middle School's Neel ’31, and Zoey ’31 and Lower School’s Sparsh ’32 led the elementary division to finish in second place. In the primary division for kindergarten through third grade, USN’s team finished in first place with notable individual placements including Steven ’34 in first place, DA ’33 in third place, and Edith ’33 tied for 19th place. Mac ’33 tied for fifth place in the unrated division with Miles ’34 serving as his teammate.
USN’s Chess Club includes almost 70 players who range from beginners to city champions. The team is excited about what is shaping up to be a great season.
The senior has been awarded one of the most highly selective merit scholarships in the nation, making it two consecutive years that University of Virginia has selected a USN student for a full ride covering the cost of instruction, housing, and meals.
