Unseasonably warm weather and cloudless skies greeted the Tiger harriers at the famed Sawyer Park in Louisville on Saturday. Despite the less than ideal conditions, the runners put forth great efforts that portend even bigger things to come.
The varsity boys climbed off the bus, warmed up, and got ready to roll. Carried along by a very fast field, all of them had swift first miles and then gamely kept working to sustain the early paces. Jack Fruin and Eli Galentino once again led the way in strong performances, followed by Caspar Schmidt, Drew Brackett, Gavin Higgins, Adam Wang, and Binyam Dunne all within a minute of each other. The team finished 24th in a very strong regional field of 39 teams.
The girls had a similar performance, with Madeleine Wiseman and Morgan McAteer running PRs to lead the way. Much like the boys, Liv O’Hara, Olivia Hess, Chloe Cmelak, Grace Boero, and Jackie Seale all finished within a minute of each other, contributing to a very strong 9th as a team.
The JV runners had to endure the hottest weather but were undaunted. Particularly impressive performances came from 8th grade Drew Zwerner (11th overall), Jack Wellons, and Dhruv Reddy, who all ran their first-ever 5km races.
The teams will train diligently this week and are ready to race again next week in beautiful and (if the forecast hilds) much cooler Alabama!

The Middle School Quiz Bowl finished off another successful season with a trip to the Middle School National Championship Tournament in Chicago. The team fought hard and ended the season as a top-100 program in the country, finishing 75th overall. Congratulations to the team on a great performance and to Lucas Lupu ’31, named an All Star for being the fifth-highest scorer nationwide.
