Tigers Tear it Up at Chickasaw Trails

With beautiful weather and a few thousand of our closest friends, the cross country teams had a fantastic day at the Chickasaw Trails Invitational in Danville, AL.

The girls took advantage of the cool morning start and ran incredibly well-paced races to finish 5th out of 25 teams. All nine girls moved up significantly in the race’s second half, ending up just six points off 2nd place. Madeleine Wiseman led the way in 6th, followed by fellow top-30 t-shirt earners Morgan McAteer and Olivia Hess (22nd & 27th). The team’s depth showed, as seniors Chloe Cmelak and Boero both finished in the top 60. Freshman Jackie Seale, Adelaide, Ritter, and Norah Harrison were within a minute of Grace, portending a bright future.

The varsity boys also ran well, finishing 4th of 35 teams. Jack Fruin and Eli Galentino both posted top 20 finishes and PRS. The rest of the team employed a restrained start strategy and moved up well as a group, with the next four runners (Caspar Schmidt, Clay Payne, Brandon Fonseca, and Binyam Dunne), within 30 seconds of one another. Gavin Higgins broke 20 minutes for the first and Dylan Omary missed doing so by a staggeringly close 0.25 seconds.

The large boys JV team was the highest-placed small school in the combined race, led by PRs from Adam Wang and Paulo Saoud. With 35 PRs pm the day, there was no shortage of standout performances. Alex Whitefield’s PR led by 4 minutes, Aaron Ramey and Elijah Westberry taking on their first races after only a few practices, the list could extend on and on.

The teams will keep training diligently and race again in 3 weeks’ time in Louisville. Thanks for your support!
