This past weekend, our Ultimate Frisbee team traveled to Atlanta to compete in the Atlanta Flying Disc Club’s Round Robin tournament on Sunday, April 16 th . The girls’ team, bolstered by a national ranking (#19), were fired up for this competition. That day, we participated in a clinic run by the Atlanta Ultimate mens’ teams and watched the men participate in a professional league game.
On Saturday, we also competed against Paideia Girls’ nationally ranked (#5) Ultimate Team. There, we played our strongest game against Paideia in recent history. We played point to point, keeping it close throughout the first half. The second half was a different story, with Paideia making a strong run to give them the win. The result was a 4-9 loss. Regardless of this loss, we are proud of our showing and our confidence was bolstered by our solid effort and attitude.
On Sunday, we participated in the AFDC (Atlanta Flying Disc Club) Round Robin tournament held at the Atlanta Polo Club. Following our strong performance Saturday, our first game played was against Grayson HS. We had a quick start, stayed calm and confident and came out with a 9-3 win.
Our second game was against a strong Decatur team. We started strong maintaining a 2 or 3 point lead throughout the game. However, Decatur had a big push in the second half, keeping the game close and tying it at the end of regulation. We then played universe point for the win. Each team had attempts to score but strong defenses held. Working hard, our Brutal Grassburn girls won by a great catch in the endzone!
Our third game was against Woodard HS. Although we put it all on the line in the Decatur game, we were resilient and positive. Another strong showing that also allowed our new players positive playing time, resulted in an 8-0 win. Coming out of our last out-of-state tournament for the year was exhilarating and such a positive end to this part of our season. Our next tournament is the State Tournament on the weekend of May 6 th .
