USNA Volunteer Spotlight: Crystal Hochhalter

Get to know this year's Music Night Chair through a question and answer session with Volunteer Coordinator Helen Jahangir.
Q: Names of child/children that are at USN and include grade/s.
A: Camille ‘33

Q: How many years have you been involved at USN?
A: This is my third year.

Q: How are/have you been involved at USN?
A: I served as room parent for First Grade Teacher Lizzie Ammerman’s class last year, and again this year for Second Grade Teachers Molly Darr and Megan Peterson. For this past Artclectic, I took on the role of Communications Chair in which I formed our media plan/ buys, communications material & ran the social media channels. I am excited to chair Music Night on Saturday, April 1.

Q: Why do you do it?
A: When my daughter entered USN in the fall of 2020, we only knew one family. I was determined to build relationships within the school — even if it was via Zoom meetings. USNA was an amazing opportunity to not only build relationships but also listen to guest speakers and learn about volunteer needs. I love being involved & serving our school community.

Q: Would you do it again? Why?
A: I can see myself taking the learnings from prior experiences and applying them toward another round with Artclectic or Music Night if needed in the future.

Q: Words of wisdom? Piece of advice?
A: Get involved and come to USNA and Dads' Alliance meetings if you can. Or, if you’re unable to attend meetings, signing up for a volunteer spot is deeply appreciated.

Q: What do you love most about USN?
A: USN’s inclusive learning environment makes me feel both fortunate and proud to be a member of the community.

Q: What else do you have going on in your life outside of chairing Music Night?
A: I am a Project Manager at Zehnder Communications, a full-service marketing and advertising agency. You can also find me on campus once a month volunteering with our Girl Scout Brownie troop. During our free time, our family loves making music, ice skating, hiking, camping and spending time with our family dog, Belle.
