NewChannel 5 featured University School of Nashville’s Artclectic during its evening broadcast on Thursday, October 20. The story focused on the return of Grant Garmezy ’03 to his alma mater as the featured artist during USN’s annual art show benefiting the school's endowment for innovative teaching.

In addition to being a fundraiser for USN, Artclectic also provides valuable art education for students during the school day. Throughout the week, Garmezy has been sculpting glasses, birds, and dinosaur hands from sand heated to over 200 degrees as K-12 students watch wearing protective eyeglasses.

Reporter Forrest Sanders interviewed Allie Jackson ’31 about the glass blowing demonstrations and Art Department Co-Chair Trent Boysen about Garmezy’s evolution as a student and artist now paying it forward to USN.  In the 26 years USN has been hosting this art show of juried exhibitors, this year is the first time that the featured artist has been an alumnus.

Click here for the lineup of Artclectic events, which are open to the public. Visiting the gallery is free but some parties are ticketed events. Saturday is Discovery Day at Artclectic with activities for children including artist demonstrations, scavenger hunts, a DJ, games, and art projects. There is also a partnership with Wond’ry for make-and-take art projects.
