What an amazing evening! USN’s first Kickoff Cabaret was a resounding success. Hosted by the High School Student Theater Guild and Tiger Arts Patrons, better known as TAP, the evening was a free event suitable for all ages. Organized in about a week, here are some of the FAQs we received.

What actually was the Kickoff Cabaret?
The Kickoff Cabaret was an evening introducing and celebrating the USN arts, including vocal, dance, and instrumental performances from both Middle and High School. Attire was cocktail comfortable with a 1920s theme. The evening ended with High School Theater Director Lily Palmer announcing the 2022-2023 HS Theater season.

How did it come about?
Actually, the Cabaret was a combined effort. Daniel Stark ’23, president of STG, approached Ms. Palmer asking about trying something different than the usual HS One Acts in August. Ms. Palmer suggested a Kickoff Cabaret. She approached TAP about helping to organize and implement the event. STG took lead in getting the performers together, and TAP was happy to help with decorations, refreshments, and advertising.

Why do it?
Because we are really proud of all our students in the arts at USN and are super excited about all the fantastic events on the calendar.

Who else should we be sure to thank for making this evening happen?
So many hearts and hands made Kickoff Cabaret happen! Student Theater Guild, Tiger Arts Patrons, HS Theater and Director Lily Palmer, MS Theater and Director Bakari King, Tech Theater Director Jim Manning and all his crew, all our friends in USN Operations, the Arts Department, Communications Director Juanita Traughber, Communications Specialist Sierra Smith, Cafeteria Manager Kelly Mozzi and SAGE, Director Amani Reed, Head of HS Quinton Walker, Head of MS Jeff Greenfield, USNA, and USN faculty, staff, and administrators.

Can we look forward to an annual Kickoff Cabaret? Other school-wide celebrations including visual and performing arts?
Time will tell, but we’re definitely up for it.
