Hawks fall to 0-2 on the road

Greg Anderson
The Harding Academy 6th grade football team traveled to Father Ryan High School for an evening matchup against Nashville Catholic this past Tuesday. The Hawks got off to a slow start in the first half, as they struggled to move the ball offensively. Holden Thomas (HA‘25) and Elijah Westbrook (HA‘25) showed great effort and leadership as they played a significant number of snaps on both sides of the ball throughout the game. They went into halftime down a few scores, but the Hawks did not back down. They came out with more intensity in the second half and started having success moving the ball through their passing game. The connection between quarterback Briggs Waddey (HA‘25) and his receiver Jack Moran (Holy Trinity Montessori) was on fire over the course of the second half including a long completion with a great second effort from Moran to get the Hawks on the board. Following a fumble recovery from the Hawks’ defense, Waddey scrambled out of the pocket and added another touchdown run later in the fourth quarter. The Hawks outscored Nashville Catholic 14-8 in the second half, but unfortunately it wasn’t enough to overcome the early deficit. The Hawks look forward to next Thursday, September 1st for an afternoon matchup at Pope Prep. Go Hawks!
