Reception honors six retirees

A retirement reception was held 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Friday, May 13 in the Auditorium for Mary Buxton, Jan Honsberger, Jean Hutchinson, Pat Miletich, Susan Pearlman, and Kathy Wieczerza.
By Sierra Smith, Communications Specialist

Library Director Mary Buxton joined the Hassenfeld Library team in 2014. Under her eight years of leadership, Buxton created a school culture in which the library is one of the most welcoming places on campus, further facilitating a love of reading and an enthusiasm for research in many USN scholars.

Jan Honsberger has been a thoughtful and supportive presence in the Lower School since 2004. The Red Door Kindergarten Teacher will leave the West Wing having been an instrumental influence in the lives of students at the earliest stages of their lives at 2000 Edgehill, laying a solid foundation for their subsequent years.

For 30 years Lower School Learning Specialist Jean Hutchinson worked to ensure students had the best access to learning. Often found with a student shooting basketball hoops from her desk, Hutchinson's creative and dedicated approach to understanding and unearthing students' unique learning styles was integral to shaping countless students' capacity to know and understand the world.

High School History Teacher Pat Miletich began her career at USN in 1986. In her time on Edgehill, Miletich was more than just a teacher, acting as the sponsor for numerous High School clubs including the International Club, Quiz Bowl team, and Mock Trial, among others. Miletich demonstrated an inspiring availability and openness to her students, offering the advice, input, and challenging questions they needed to think deeper and grow as historians and informed participants in modern democracy.

In her role as the Director's Office Administrative Assistant, Susan Pearlman was an invaluable resource to the entire USN community during her nine years of service. Acting as Director Vince Durnan’s right hand, Pearlman’s careful eye and unflinchingly good judgment contributed mightily to the exceptional experience of each individual while at 2000 Edgehill.

Director of Technology Kathy Wieczerza, known more commonly as Wiz, leaves Edgehill after 28 years of service. In that time, Wiz oversaw tremendous changes to the school's daily operations as society's technological dependence evolved at a rapid rate with great leadership and poise.

Join us in honoring these six retirees on Friday, May 13 from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. in the Auditorium. Also retiring are Lower School Counselor Laurie Drummond, Graphic Designer Jeff Goold, and Human Resources Director Genie Tanner.
