USN was making contact, but it would always end up being hit to one of Harpeth Hall's infielder.
It was a hot game and it was a long game. The USN team wasn't used to playing in the muggle hot weather and unfortunately it definitely affected morale. Harpeth Hall's defense shined with solid infielders who made fast and hard throws from anywhere on the field. This made things hard for USN who found most of their solid hits going directly towards a Green infielder. Even when USN was able to make it on base, Harpeth Hall was able to make close plays and the right plays, stunting USN's ability to steal around the bases like usual. For USN the defense would be solid for most of the inning and then Harpeth Hall would bust through with back-to-back-to-back great hits, halting USN's progress to end the inning. Notably, Abbey Adkins made a great double play; she caught a pop up and then threw it to first and she had 1 strike out! And then Josie Vogt caught a high pop up on the 3rd baseline!
Softball is a hard game when you can't string together great plays to keep the energy up, so as a growing team it's an imperative that they create their own energy out of nothing and find ways to persevere together.
As part of a longstanding tradition, retired teachers and professionals from USN over the years came together to celebrate, connect, and reminisce during their annual luncheon in Durnan Auditorium.
