It was a great day for softball! When the USN Tiger's arrived to the Bellevue fields they were feeling good - the weather was great, the snacks were yummy, and the players were ready to win! USN had already played Ensworth's Varsity and JV teams before, but today it was just the JV team. Ensworth tried their best, but their pitchers only started pitching 2 weeks ago, so it was a tough game all around for them. USN capsized on the opportunities that presented themselves, which turned into getting a lot of steals, making contact when there was a strike thrown, and practicing cheers and other softball fundamentals.
The offensive highlights came from many different players. Jaya Somayaji, Lulu Rose Gilberd, and Josie Vogt all had solid hits and made it to first. While Ruchika Ramachandran, Abigail Weinman, and Victoria White all had a doubles! It's always super exciting to get the bats rolling and being aggressive on offense.
On the other side of the ball, USN had their first double play of the season! After a great pitch by Abbey Adkins, Ensworth had a line drive to second, yet Zahra Ansari had an amazing snag and tossed it the Lulu Rose, who made the tag out at second base! Abbey also had two strike outs for the game and Ruchika got a ground ball and forced out at first!
At the end of the day while the win was fun and nice, it was great to see the USN Tiger's focus on the little things like timing their lead offs, improving their base running, moving on defense every play, and more. If they can't do the fundamentals when things are easy, they won't be able to do them when things are hard.
