On Saturday, February 26, University School of Nashville welcomed teams and individuals from across Tennessee and beyond for the annual Tennessee History Bee & Bowl State Championships.
Players matched wits over American and World history, both ancient and modern. Teams competed in the four-part bowl, while top individuals also contested the round-robin history bee.
USN’s team consisted of Emily Wykoff '22, Frederick Rudolph '23, Oliver Buntin '23, and Rohan Ramachandran '25. The team opened with a narrow loss to White Station High School but rolled through the remaining preliminary rounds to finish 4-1 and claim the top playoff seed.
After dispatching a talented Franklin Road Academy squad in the semifinals, the Tigers avenged their earlier loss with a 260-190 win against White Station in the final to claim the bowl championship.
Additionally, Oliver took second in the varsity bee for upperclassmen, with Frederick placing third; Rohan was third in the junior varsity bee for underclassmen. The banner day replicated past successes — of the last 10 state history bowls contested — this was USN’s sixth championship.
The organization sincerely thanks all of the faculty and volunteers who made the event possible, especially Lorelei Jobe '23 and Jay Bivens '25.
The senior has been awarded one of the most highly selective merit scholarships in the nation, making it two consecutive years that University of Virginia has selected a USN student for a full ride covering the cost of instruction, housing, and meals.
