Students debate at UGA tournament

The High School debate team delivered a strong showing in its latest competition. Collin Chan '25 and Caroline Keiper '25 were recognized as the seventh and 10th place speakers in the division, respectively.

The Tigers competed in (virtual) bulldog territory in University of Georgia's Bulldog Debates for High School held Friday, February 25–Sunday, February 27. 
  
In the open division, Luke Kim '23 and Ophelia Cherry-Pulay '25 finished with a 3-3 record in Ophelia's first varsity competition. Luke and Ophelia notched victories over teams from Woodward Academy (College Park, Georgia), Westminster (Atlanta), and Damien High School (La Verne, California).
 
In the novice division, Collin Chan '25 and Caroline Keiper '25 finished prelims with a 5-1 record, good for the third seed in the elimination bracket. They defeated a team from Damien on a 2-1 decision in the quarterfinal round before dropping a 0-3 decision to the second seed from Northview High School (Johns Creek, Georgia). Collin and Caroline were recognized as the seventh and 10th place speakers in the division, respectively. Eleanor Molvig '25 and Zinnia Nichols-Loller '25 finished with a 3-3 record on the weekend. 
 
The Class of 2025 debaters are gearing up for the 2022 First Year National Championships hosted by Woodward Academy on Friday, March 18 through Sunday, March 20.
