Things are coming together!

OMG! 25-22 and 25-20! Serve receive get low get low!
Things are coming together! And at first it didn’t seem like it would, but because of the determination and focus of all the players, USN was able to pull out its first win of the middle school volleyball season! All the players were excited to play another team after the close game against CPA, but when they learned we’d be without two of our starters it made them very nervous. They had to learn a new subbing rotation and others would have to step up where holes were left. And they did!

First set was a back and forth game. A set full of mini runs. 2 points to USN and 2 points to Grace Christian, no one ever pulled away by a significant margin. But everyone stepped up to make major contributions! Charlotte Soslow had not just 2 successful serves, but 2 ACES! The bench created FOCUSED energy with some inventive cheers, reminding their teammates to stay low on defense. Even when Grace Christian scored consecutive points the momentum never left USN. They won a well fought set 25-22!

The second set was nerve racking! To win one set is different than winning the entire match, so it was a major step to make. But this team rode that wave of excitement and enthusiasm (with additional help from Varsity and Cardinal team cheering on the sidelines). Lindley Davidson went on a tear! She served 9 times in a row, and 4 of them were aces! And defense was just pure hustle and fundamentals. Everyone had a great pass or defensive play -- Kendall Puzniak, Bria Prince, Adeline Miller, Sofia Gulmi, May Cox, Nora Ammerman, Lydia Kim, Charlotte Soslow, Lindley Davidson, India Baler! It was truly amazing to see the growth. They made adjustments and were always cheering/encouraging their teammates.

This team is such an amazing team because of their love for each other and the process. They love the game of volleyball, but even more so, they love getting better and cheering for each other’s success, and that’s what makes this team so fun to watch!

Sneak Peek: Next step, clean up communication and be aggressive divers! (Perhaps some overhand serving?!)
