When students and families return to 2000 Edgehill, these are the renovations and construction projects that will greet them. Plus, a major update approved for the River Campus.

The smell of fresh paint drying, the buzz of electric saws and drills humming through the air, and entire classrooms worth of furniture pushed out into hallways in a Tetris-like fashion — all surefire signs that it’s summertime at 2000 Edgehill. With less bodies in the building as students and faculty take well-earned breaks, construction projects and room renovations took place throughout June, July, and early August. Here’s what Tigers will return to on the first day of school:
The third floor of the West Wing, including third and fourth grade classrooms, and the Lower School technology lab, received facelifts. Each room was outfitted with new overhead LED lighting and ceiling tiles as well as fresh coats of paint and new carpet. This completes a series of planned renovations to the West Wing that began in the spring of 2020.
Students will encounter more changes on the third floor. Previously two offices, a wall and door were removed to create a larger Technology Office, moving all four members of the department to one central location in room 3290. Meanwhile, Technology Director Kathy “Wiz” Wieczerza moved into a new space. A wall was added to Library Director Mary Buxton’s existing office to create Wieczerza’s new home base on the second floor. Both renovations included new carpeting and fresh coats of paint, as well.
Replacing the floor in Cheek Gym began on June 7, and the demolition crew quickly uncovered years of PDS/USN history. While Operations Director Erik Mash aimed to have the new floor fully installed before students returned, unforeseeable supply chain issues caused by a lumber shortage have delayed the project. Students and families will be able to see the work in progress through the windows overlooking the gym on the first floor.
Mash shared these updates with faculty and staff during a back-to-school inservice meeting on Monday, August 11 and revealed the school’s next major construction project, too. With Board approval and permit requests filed, significant updates to the River Campus are in the works.
According to River Campus Director Bret Mash, installation of a sewer system on the River Campus will begin in early fall, and following the systems installation, construction will begin on a multipurpose building that will house bathrooms and storage space. The project is estimated to be complete in time for spring athletes to take advantage of the upgrade.
As part of a longstanding tradition, retired teachers and professionals from USN over the years came together to celebrate, connect, and reminisce during their annual luncheon in Durnan Auditorium.
It is common to have five or more University School of Nashville student-athletes sign college athletic commitment letters each year, and this year, USN saw eight more student-athletes commit to continue their athletic careers at the collegiate level. USN has several alumni participating in their chosen sport at the collegiate level from the Classes of 2021 through 2025.
