Recently, two High School student-led clubs, Science Olympiad and Health Occupations Students of America, met on the Edgehill Lawn to celebrate a very successful competition season. Starting in the fall, these clubs began to prepare for the year’s competitions, and throughout the spring the team members competed in numerous virtual events.

Over three weekends in February, the Science Olympiad team members worked in pairs over Zoom to compete in events such as Chemistry Lab, Designer Genes, Environmental Chemistry, and Forensics. During the Regional Science Olympiad competition, the team as a whole qualified to compete at the State Tournament in April. The State Tournament occurred over Zoom, and team members answered a wide range of questions in various topics. At State, two pairs placed in the top six teams in Tennessee. Lauren French '21 and Robiya Sahibnazarova '24 placed sixth in the Fossils event, and Sheeline Yu '21 and Sheerea Yu '23 earned second place in the Geological Mapping event.

HOSA members competed in a Regional competition, as well. HOSA events center around knowledge and skills associated with medical fields. During the January Regional HOSA competition, Somya Singh '21 and Natalie Wright '21 placed fifth in Forensics, and Erica Friedman '21 placed fourth in Health Career Photography. All advanced to the State Competition. At the State Competition, Erica’s presentation was awarded second place. She will continue to compete this summer at HOSA’s International Leadership Conference.

Congratulations on a successful year to the members of both teams!
