Nia Chetkovich '22 and Isaac Chomsky '22 took their AP US History research papers to the Tennessee Historical Society's annual Tennessee History Day competition.
The competition is the state's affiliate of National History Day, a yearlong education program for students in grades 6-12 focused on students' research techniques, writing skills, historical knowledge, creativity, literacy, communication, civic engagement, and college readiness.
Isaac's paper, "The Noble Lie: Nixon's Attempt to Stifle Freedom of Information and a Legacy of Government Deception," placed first in the Regional competition. Nia's paper, "The Significance of Feminist Bookstores: Popularizing the Second Wave Feminist Movement," place second in the Regional Competition and third in the State competition.
"It was a niche topic that opens up more research opportunities in the future," Nia remarked.
Isaac plans to further pursue his interests in the "social justice movements of the modern era," as well.
Congratulations to both students who are passionately interested in history and original research.

Guided by dedicated alumni coaches, the boys and girls teams consistently win state championships, embodying a legacy of excellence and innovation.
The Tiger Give Back Challenge, our school's annual giving day, is on Wednesday, March 25. Circle the date on your calendar in Columbia blue and garnet. Consider volunteering to phone a friend during the Connect-a-thon.You don't have to wait for Wednesday to be part of the challenge.
During the Mock Trial tournament at the historic downtown courthouse, USN took down a formidable Harpeth Hall team in the final to become district champions.
