By Pat Miletich, HS History Teacher
Nia Chetkovich '22 and Isaac Chomsky '22 took their AP US History research papers to the Tennessee Historical Society's annual Tennessee History Day competition.
The competition is the state's affiliate of National History Day, a yearlong education program for students in grades 6-12 focused on students' research techniques, writing skills, historical knowledge, creativity, literacy, communication, civic engagement, and college readiness.
Isaac's paper, "The Noble Lie: Nixon's Attempt to Stifle Freedom of Information and a Legacy of Government Deception," placed first in the Regional competition. Nia's paper, "The Significance of Feminist Bookstores: Popularizing the Second Wave Feminist Movement," place second in the Regional Competition and third in the State competition.
"It was a niche topic that opens up more research opportunities in the future," Nia remarked.
Isaac plans to further pursue his interests in the "social justice movements of the modern era," as well.
Congratulations to both students who are passionately interested in history and original research.
