USN welcomes author Anthony Abraham Jack

Author Anthony Abraham Jack will visit University School of Nashville on Thursday, February 13 to discuss his recent book, “The Privileged Poor: How Elite Colleges Are Failing Disadvantaged Students,” and his research on disadvantaged students’ experiences in higher education with USN faculty and High School students.
Author Anthony Abraham Jack will visit University School of Nashville on Thursday, February 13 to discuss his recent book, “The Privileged Poor: How Elite Colleges Are Failing Disadvantaged Students,” and his research on disadvantaged students’ experiences in higher education with USN faculty and High School students.
Jack is a junior fellow at the Harvard Society of Fellows and assistant professor of education at the Harvard Graduate School of Education and holds the Shutzer Assistant Professorship at the Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study.
“The Privileged Poor” is on the summer reading list for USN faculty. The book focuses on how backgrounds can affect chances of success in education, the experiences in higher education of independent school alumni from low income families, how they have difficulties adjusting to collegiate life, and provides advice on how university policies and campus cultures should change to reduce hidden advantages.
Jack's visit to USN is preceded by time at Vanderbilt University where he will speak to the wider Nashville community. He also will give Vanderbilt's 12th annual Murray Lecture at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, February 12 in the Sarratt Cinema. Click here for more information.
